Technical Data

IMAGES ON THIS WEBSITE

During the photography website, efforts have been made to match the true look, relief and color of the tiles as closely as possible. However, the real tiles may vary slightly from the photographs.

APPLICATION AREAS

In general, most tiles and accessories have been designed for vertical applications on internal areas. However, specific series such pool tiles, Dijon series and Terracota series are designed for external areas, which are not subject to freezing. Please refer to the application area under "Technical Data" on each product page.

COLOR SHADE VARIATION

Being hand crafted, Antigua tiles are subject to minor color shade variations from lot to lot. It is recommend that an additional 10% of plain tiles be considered when ordering the product to avoid complementing with different lots. In the case when additional pieces are required to existing installations, please supply the factory with a piece of the original tile so the complement can be matched as close as possible to the existing.

KILN CRAZING

Some kiln crazing before and after installation might occur in some cristalina colors but will not impair the quality of the tiles. In this website, all cristalina glazing colors are identified as "Cristalina" right after its code and name. The crazing of tiles usually happens in the first hours after fabrication, however this process can continue during a longer period, even after installed.

NOMINAL SIZE, SIZE VARIATION & MINIMUM JOINT BETWEEN PIECES

All referred dimensions in this website are nominal. Real dimensions can vary slightly. Due to the manufacturing nature of Antigua tiles, all products will present a slight variation in size. This variation, along with other physical characteristics, requires the use of a mandatory minimum joint between pieces. This minimal joint thickness is informed under "Technical Data" on every collection presented or under the format table under "Colors and Shapes" for plain tiles or accessories. Some products come mesh or film mounted (mosaics). In this case, the joints are already given and installation between sheets should keep the same joint thickness. Antigua does not recommend and does not assume any responsibility of its tiles when the minimum joint is not respected.

STAINED OR PATINATED PIECES

Antigua has some products that do not have a final fired glazing over their surface , these are the Stained or Patinated pieces. When grouting stained material, avoid as much as possible excess grout. If it happens, allow grout material to dry completely and then remove it with a dry sponge or toothbrush. To keep stained pieces looking new, wax then periodically. In both cases, it is not recommended to apply these pieces in wet areas subject to water or water vapor.

MAINTENANCE

Excess grout during installation of glazed tiles should be removed with a wet clean towel or sponge. Although no standard applies to edge impact, the best advice remains to pay careful attention to detail when grouting to ensure that all edges are afforded maximum protection. Do not acid wash glazed tiles. All foods and other substances containing acid may affect the color of a tile . Always clean spills as soon as possible. Cristalina colors are more subject to acid attack. All glazed surfaces are subject to some wearing or scratching over a period of time. Care should be taken to select the proper tile for a given use.

RELIEF & HOLLOW PIECES

In relief or hollow back pieces, a complete coverage of bonding mortar between tile and substrate is required.

LIABILITY OF INSTALLATION AND USE

Antigua does not assume any responsibility for faulty or inappropriate installation of its products. We do not extend any guarantees, express or implied, as to wear resistance, maintenance, glaze slipperiness or other problems which may occur by incorrect use of our tiles.
